Founded by Dr. Sabo Tanimu, the Foundation supports programs for youth in Nigeria. These efforts focus on the importance of higher learning, career training and improved healthcare.
Education is the heart of a society and a catalyst for societal development. To bring this concept to life, the foundation supports higher education in Nigeria by offering college scholarships to students each year.
A respected Gastroenterologist based in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, Dr. Tanimu grew up in Nigeria and has close ties to the communities in which the foundation works. He created the foundation to foster change and positive growth in these areas after seeing the growing number of students with fewer opportunities to reach college or get vocational training.
For some students in North Central Nigeria, education is cut short for reasons ranging from financial constraints and lack of positive role models, to poor societal guidance and gang activities. The Tanimu Foundation aims to take a pivotal role in countering this trend and offering opportunities for higher education. It will pursue this goal while fostering an environment where hard work, dedication and perseverance in the pursuit of education are rewarded.
Besides the scholarship program, the foundation is also offering vocational training at the Tanimu Foundation Vocational Center. This is meant for those who might not be eligible for the scholarship or who have limited opportunities for career training.
In July 2018, the foundation built and opened the Ultra-Modern Public Library to provide books and materials, including modern technology, for students and others in Benue state. The library will further Dr. Tanimu’s goal to provide ample opportunities for education to the community.
With its water project, the foundation now also supports the overall health of the community. It provides access to clean water through a solar-powered pump station.
The Tanimu Foundation is a private foundation and non-profit organization. All activities have been funded by its founder and by companies that have donated medical supplies, including Wilson Cook Medical and Boston Scientific, Marshfield Clinic, Saint Claire Ascension Hospital and Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Wausau, Wisconsin.
Our programs focus on promoting education and youth empowerment, with emphasis on educating young girls who have limited access to higher learning. We have no religious inclination and encourage tolerance of one another.
